We’re delighted to celebrate our incredible Insights Team—Fang Yuan, Caitlin Adams, Lavender Liu, Claire Fisk, and Madeleine Seehaber—who have just won the Innovation in Earth Observation Award at the 2024 Australian Advancing Earth Observation Forum! This award is a well-deserved recognition of their exceptional talent, hard work, and dedication to pushing the boundaries of Earth observation (EO).

As a rare all-women data science team, the Insights Team is a shining example of what happens when diverse perspectives come together with a shared passion for innovation. With deep expertise in remote sensing, machine learning (ML), and artificial intelligence (AI), they’ve successfully delivered 18 groundbreaking projects over the last two years, all while building strong, trusting relationships with clients across government and industry. Whether it’s enhancing water data for firefighting, mapping vegetation in the Murray–Darling Basin, or developing cutting-edge algorithms for environmental monitoring, the team consistently delivers solutions that make a real-world difference.

What sets them apart is not just their technical expertise, but also their commitment to empowering others. Through their work, the team actively builds capacity in the EO community, sharing their knowledge and uplifting skills to ensure a long-lasting impact. Their passion for education, collaboration, and community is at the heart of everything they do—and it shows in every project.

We couldn’t be prouder of the incredible work they’ve done and the lasting impact they’re making in the EO community. Congratulations to the team on this well-deserved honour!
