FRONTIERSI BECOMES SILVER SPONSOR OF GDAL
June 2021
This year, we are thrilled to become a Silver sponsor of GDAL as part of the Sustainable GDAL initiative. It represents a critical step in the maturity of the project, recognising its place as vital infrastructure for the geospatial community. GDAL serves as a cooperative that enables us to combine efforts and expand upon each other’s work.
GDAL is a truly collaborative effort, with several organisations contributing #resources to its success; organisations including Microsoft, ESRI and Google which provide unrestricted funding every year to maintain and improve the health of the project.
What is GDAL?
GDAL is a translator library for raster and vector geospatial data formats that is released under an X/MIT style Open Source License by the Open Source Geospatial Foundation. As a library, it presents a single raster abstract data model and single vector abstract data model to the calling application for all supported formats. It also comes with a variety of useful command line utilities for data translation and processing.
GDAL is used by many of FrontierSI Partners, either directly or embedded in higher level geospatial tools, to transform their data and extract value.
