FrontierSI, Geoscience Australia, and CSIRO Shine at 2024 Geospatial Excellence Awards
APSEA International Partnerships Award for Earth Observation For Climate Smart Innovation
FrontierSI, in collaboration with Geoscience Australia, CSIRO and Symbios were awarded the Oceanic Asia-Pacific Spatial Excellence Award (APSEA) in the industry category for International Partnerships, recognising our continued commitment to global collaboration and innovation in the geospatial industry. The Earth Observation for Climate Smart Innovation project fostered cross-regional collaboration and facilitated commercialisation opportunities in Southeast Asia and Australia. The project successfully enhanced participants’ skills in utilising Earth Observation (EO) data for climate resilience, particularly through the CSIRO EASI platform.
National Future Leader of the Year Award for Lavender Liu
Lavender Liu, one of our exceptional Earth Observation Data Scientists, was the oceanic winner of the National Future Leader of the Year award at Locate24. This achievement adds to her incredible track record, having previously secured the Diversity and Inclusion Award and Future Leader of the Year Award at the Western Australian level in 2023.
A Chinese Australian, Lavender combines remarkable technical expertise with strong leadership skills, dedicating her career to leveraging Earth Observation data for solving real-world problems, especially in environmental monitoring. Lavender’s journey from a full scholarship PhD at UNSW to her current role as an Earth Observation Data Scientist at FrontierSI showcases her rapid progression and strong leadership. Lavender’s outstanding technical leadership, mentorship, and contributions to user-centred projects have played a pivotal role in fostering a more inclusive and diverse geospatial community.
“I’m incredibly grateful for the support and encouragement I’ve received from everyone at FrontierSI. Receiving this award has been both a surprise and a source of motivation for me. None of this would have been possible without the unwavering support from FrontierSI and the broader geospatial community, who truly value contributions from all walks of life.” – Lavender, Earth Observation Data Scientist

Ginan And The National Positioning Infrastructure Capability (NPIC)
We would also like to congratulate Geoscience Australia’s National Positioning Infrastructure Capability (NPIC) team on winning the Geospatial Enablement Award. NPIC’s integration with the Australian Geospatial Reference System ensures alignment and interoperability of valuable geospatial information. Ginan is used to validate and verify the quality of data coming from the NPIC network, ensuring that consumers are only accessing trust-worthy data. We have enjoyed working with Geoscience Australia on a range of projects and are pleased to see the positive impacts these collaborations have on our nation.
“These awards celebrate the spirit of teamwork and innovation that drive us at FrontierSI. It’s energising to see the continuing dedication, excellence and synergy among our team and collaborators recognised and celebrated by the industry. We’re heartened by this recognition to keep pushing boundaries and make a difference using spatial data and technologies.”– Graeme Kernich, CEO, FrontierSI
As we celebrate these incredible wins, FrontierSI is fuelled with even more passion to keep pushing boundaries in the geospatial world. With heartfelt thanks to our team, partners, and the entire geospatial community, we’re excited to keep innovating and making a real impact with spatial data and technology.
