FrontierSI Successfully Facilitates Commercialisation of Industry-First Property Analytics Software

Friday 26 August 2022

MELBOURNE: FrontierSI announced today that it recently facilitated a new strategic commercial partnership with PEXA Group Limited (ASX:PXA) who have taken a 70% stake in Slate Analytics, a company founded by FrontierSI and UNSW Sydney. Slate Analytics will deliver a data-driven toolkit which calculates property valuations for urban development. The toolkit allows urban planners and policymakers to explore the effect of new infrastructure and changes to planning controls on surrounding property values, which will further facilitate data-driven solutions to support better city planning.

Through its capabilities and proven experience in establishing a culture of innovation and delivering ideas from R&D through to full-scale commercialisation for its partners, FrontierSI has helped unlock immense value for the property industry. Co-developed with UNSW, the digital toolkit uses big data, artificial intelligence, and advanced analytics to calculate property valuations across Australia’s residential property market. Its interactive scenario capability represents an industry-first for planning support systems.

Graeme Kernich, FrontierSI CEO and Slate Analytics Director said “Through Slate Analytics, FrontierSI and UNSW have realised our vision of bringing cutting edge AI and technology into the property valuation products and services space. The investment by PEXA will be critical to furthering this vision and expanding the impact that this capability will have for Australia and beyond.”

Professor Chris Pettit, Director of the UNSW City Futures Research Centre (CFRC) said: “This research constitutes an important step in realising UNSW’s research commercialisation agenda in line with the national strategy to increase university and industry collaborations.”

This new commercial partnership brings together Frontier SI’s specialisation in spatial mapping, complex project delivery and commercial activation, UNSW’s leading research on data science and the future of our cities, and PEXA’s expertise in data and digital property settlements to deliver a world-class platform.

FrontierSI will build on its best-in-class capabilities and leadership in R&D and commercialisation, and its already strong presence across Australia and New Zealand, to continue to develop cutting edge spatial capabilities, extending its reach, and help more partners translate their ideas into real world solutions. This outcome will allow FrontierSI to sustainably invest in much needed game-changing solutions in the space and spatial industries.

FrontierSI Deputy CEO, Phil Delaney, added “Given the transformative results and momentum that we have generated on this project, we will be accelerating our investment to enable more frequent and coordinated long term solutions to be developed with our partner network.”

The partnership with PEXA and UNSW is another example of where FrontierSI has provided the  leadership, connections, collaboration ecosystem and expertise to develop industry capability and translate research into an innovative solution. These outcomes were supported through the Federal Government Cooperative Research Centre Project grants, with the successful research collaboration led by FrontierSI.

“FrontierSI, through this property technology venture, Slate Analytics, further establishes us as the partner of choice in the space and spatial sector with project commercialisation. This recent project which we’ve co-developed over the last three years offers a world-class platform so investors, businesses and governments can make more informed decisions on the future of our cities.” Kernich concluded.
